Press Release — Antwerp, March 2, 2009: HRD Antwerp – Diamond Lab, the first ever diamond lab to be ISO-certified, had its ISO accreditation renewed.

The renewal follows a comprehensive external audit of HRD Antwerp – Diamond Lab. The successful audit resulted in an extension of its ISO certificate for another five years, effective February 12, 2010.

Because grading labs have an obligation to the diamond industry and consumers to be independent, objective and consistent, HRD Antwerp – Diamond Lab has, since 1976, incorporated a set of procedures that guarantee the highest possible quality standards.

Since 1995, an annual external audit by a third party appointed by the Ministry of Economy has verified that the standards set by the International Diamond Council, the accreditation institute and the Diamond Lab itself are being maintained. The audit team consists of experts in quality management and internationally recognized diamond experts and their conclusions are binding.

During the audit, the reputation of the Diamond Lab was again confirmed by BELAC.

HRD Antwerp NV is the subsidiary of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), the private foundation formerly known as the Hoge Raad voor Diamant (HRD). HRD Antwerp operates six services: Diamond Lab, the first ISO-certified diamond lab, which issues one of the world’s most  respected diamond certificates; the Precious Stones Lab; Education; the Graduates Club; Equipment; and Research. HRD Antwerp – Diamond Lab is NBN EN ISO/IEC 17025-certified.
