Press Release: The researchers and analysts at GECI laboratory in Milan have reacted quickly to the serious suspicion of a new treatment that temporarily enhances the color of diamonds.

Overnight, the Milan-based lab began an exhaustive and thorough cross-checking process between its own data and the data released by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Today, GECI can confirm that none of the stones with the code numbers provided by the GIA have ever worked through its lab.

GECI has also added additional checks and screening of diamonds sent to its lab following the GIA alert on May 12.

Each diamond sent to the GECI lab will now undergo additional scrutiny aided by the use GECI instruments and a sophisticated software laboratory information management systems (LIMS) that enables integrated management of multiple types of data and processes.

The current challenge presents a significant opportunity for GECI to provide its services to customers (both private individuals and businesses) in Italy and abroad. GECI is committed to ensure ethical behavior in the trade, including the supply chain transparency, identification and disclosure of all treatments and grading certification strictly in accordance with the international gemological standards set by CIBJO and with national and international regulations.

GECI reiterates its position is the best European option for those in the diamond trade who seek to quickly face and react to market challenges.
