Press Release: The Silver Promotion Service (SPS) today released highlights from its annual ''Silver Jewelry Buying Trends'' survey, a study conducted for the SPS by National Jeweler/ Nielsen Business Media during February 2013. This was the fourth year such a survey has been fielded.

Highlights from the study found:
-- 77 percent of retailers said their silver jewelry sales had increased in 2012,
-- The average increase for silver jewelry sales in 2012 was 19 percent,
-- Retailers' rating of the following merchandise categories as giving the best maintained margins during the holiday season were:

Silver jewelry at 42 percent
Diamond jewelry at 24 percent
Bridal jewelry at 20 percent
Gold jewelry at 8 percent
Platinum jewelry at 6 percent

-- Retailers said silver jewelry sales as a percentage of overall unit volume was 31 percent and 24 percent of dollar volume.

Michael Barlerin, SPS's director, commented, “For multiple reasons we could not be more happy about the results the survey shows. To have such performance in any single year would obviously be great; to have corresponding results over a four-year period is truly exceptional.”

The SPS plans to forward the Executive Summary of the survey to all Savor Silver program participants and will subsequently post it on the soon to be expanded site, www.savorsilver.com.

The SPS was introduced in 2008 by the Washington D.C. based Silver Institute. The objective of the SPS is to develop and implement programs designed to enhance the image of and stimulate demand for silver jewelry in major international markets.
