Authorities Detain Two on Diamond Smuggling Charges

RAPAPORT...  The Surat branch of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained two people on suspicion of diamond smuggling. One suspect was a citizen of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the other was a resident of the Rajkot district of Gujarat.
 
"Acting on a tip off, we have arrested two people in possession of rough diamonds worth Rs 4.25 crore ($938,600) from a hotel in Surat. The duo could not furnish the mandatory certification from United Nations' Kimberley Process Certification Scheme," a senior official from DRI's Surat branch said.
