India Urges Antwerp Bourse to Create Institutional Link with BDB

Commerce minister assures investors of a welcoming investment climate in India.

RAPAPORT... India has urged the Antwerp diamond bourse to establish an institutional link with the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) for building necessary capacity and skill development.

Anand Sharma, India’s minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, led a high level business delegation to Antwerp on June 24 and 25,  to address the Global India Business Meeting – 2012. He visited the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and met with leaders of the diamond industry there.

Sharma assured representatives of the diamond industry that the issues relating to procedural tax simplification would be taken up with India's Ministry of Finance. He shared the recent policy measures for allowing consignment import of rough diamonds.

The Indian government reported that its annual trade with Belgium is valued at approximately $17 billion, with diamonds accounting for about 60 percent of the total.

Sharma assured investors of the welcoming investment climate in India and said that government has embarke3d on a program to liberalize its foreign investment regime.
