Press Release: Jewelry Information Center (JIC), the consumer education arm of Jewelers of America (JA), partnered with the American Gem Society (AGS) in a first-ever co-branded jewelry fashion show on April 27, at the Westin St. Francis during AGS Conclave 2011. The Supplier Fashion Show and Showcase Reception kicked off the four-day educational and networking conference with more than 400 retailers in attendance.

JIC’s director of media, Helena Krodel, produced the fashion show, which showcased the jewelry of 25 leading designers. The fashion show mimicked well-known runway shows of top fashion designers, with models walking a runway wearing the designers’ jewelry – some baubles totaling a cool million dollars – and couture gowns by renowned fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo. JIC provided official “Run-of-Show” programs to attendees – much like the programs used during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City – that detailed each designer’s jewelry as well as the suggested retail price. It doubled as a guide and a sales tool for retailers interested in making purchases after the runway show ended. A post-show cocktail reception had retailers and industry professionals mingling amongst music and refreshments while designers showcased additional jewelry.

According to JA's chief operating officer, Robert Headley, “The partnership between the American Gem Society and Jewelry Information Center resulted in a professional jewelry fashion show that surpassed the expectations of JIC, AGS, the designer participants and the attendees. JIC has plans to continue to use its expertise as the leading fashion authority in the jewelry and watch industry to produce more shows in the future!”
